Krogen 48 'Marie Louise 11'
On Board Orientation and Training by Captain Jerry Taylor for New Owners Martha and John Robb
May 2017
"We spent three very productive days on board our Kadey-Krogen North Sea 48 with Jerry and Wendy Taylor. We had never had a boat of this size and complexity before. Jerry and Wendy started with basics and proceeded at our pace, going through the boat and systems in detail, taking time to explain in plain language, and answer all of our questions. They covered all mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, covering theory, use and maintenance requirements. They patiently taught us close space maneuvering, docking, basic navigation, deck management, rules of the road and emergency procedures. There was enough hands-on experience to allow us to feel comfortable handling our boat.
Their training guide gave us a basic outline for learning and a good checklist to be sure we covered all important topics. The only issue was not enough space for notes.
We found Jerry and Wendy very experienced, patient, knowledgeable, and had just the right teaching approach for our varied learning styles. Their assurances that they were accessible any time for consultation lends an extra bit of confidence as we begin our cruising adventures.
PS from the wife: Wendy and Jerry were great! We learned all of the above, plus how to clean the boat which I was really interested in. They had simple ideas and were wonderful to work with. I took TONS of notes and loved the training! They provided an information manual which was really simple and easy to use. Usually I fall asleep when I open a manual, but this was great covering all aspects of boat ownership."
